We have been updating and renovating our house and as part of our renovations we decided to replace our furnace. Need for an a/c and duct person arose in the middle of this summer's heat wave. All a/c contractors were flat out and wouldn't even consider dropping by.
Well, I went to the Framcom archives and found recommendations for Scott Gallagher. He actually talked himself into helping us out. He replaced old, uninsulated and just plain awful duct work and our furnace and put an A/C handler in our attic. Our house has never been as comfortable as it is now.
His prices are reasonable and his crew, Gary and Jimmy, was hard-working and pleasant to work with.
Can't say enough good stuff about Scott and his crew. If you are having heating or a/c issues (or just think you are), give Scott a call.

A couple of years ago we added a second A/C zone to our house, covering the entire 2nd floor.
We used Scott Gallagher and his company to do the installation.
He put in a totally separate system including a separate compressor outside the house, and an air handler in the attic with flexible ductwork leading into all the rooms on the second floor.
His pricing was far better than anyone else’s who came to give us an estimate, uses first class equipment and the workmanship was excellent and VERY neat.
We were looking at ductless systems as well at the time, and are so glad we went with the system that Scott installed, rather than one of the ductless units.
We were VERY happy with the experience and highly recommend him.
We now even use him for some maintenance issues on the other zone equipment which he did not even install. I would not hesitate to use him again for an installation or maintenance.
If anyone uses him, feel free to mention my name.
Good luck.

we have been using a small Framingham company All Seasons Comfort. They installed a new boiler for us in December, and he will be checking over our A/C system for the coming summer. Jim is an experienced HVAC expert and is well versed in the new High-Efficiency equipment. I recommend him.

I shopped around and eventually chose Chaves in Hudson. They were very accommodating, willing to use my new part and installed it for short money. They also offered a more affordable service contract and were easier to deal with than Comfort Air. I would whole-heartedly recommend Chaves.

I can also highly recommend Chaves Heating from my experience with the company. A few years ago, I needed to replace my heating and air-conditioning systems. They were highly courteous, prompt, professional and clean. Each time, they entered the house, they would put cloth slippers over their boots. Initially, I had three companies come to evaluate my current system and needs - the most comprehensive study and detailed report was from Chaves Heating. I have been happy since.

We use Chaves in Hudson to install additional duct work to a Master Bedroom Addition. The job was small - less than $500. They are very professional and pleasant to work with. We called because the AC was not working well, especially in the addition. Instead of trying to sell us an $8000 Furnace and AC like 2 other companies did, they suggested a complete tuneup and worked with us to get the new duct work to the addition.

They are local, incredibly responsive, and do quality work.

I must offer a differing experience to the one offered by Joy with regards to Comfort Air. They installed my central A/C many years ago and maintained it as well. They were fairly competent and did a reasonable job. However, when the fan motor on the compressor failed, their solution was to overcharge me considerably for the replacement part. When I found a new replacement part myself, they were unwilling to install it and said it would void their maintenance agreement.

I had a different experience with Comfort Air and they were indeed difficult to work with after they installed my heating system 9 years ago. There was a faulty circuit board in the new unit which was causing it to malfunction, but their technicians kept blaming us for the problem - they were very condescending and thought we didn't know how a heating system worked. It took several visits and they kept "explaining it" to us, until finally a call to the higher-ups led them to discover the faulty board. Needless to say it was a very unsatisfying experience and I did not turn to them when I added c/a.

I have had work done at my house by Josh Wiltshire from JW Heating and found him to be knowledgeable, professional, and responsive.
I also like the fact that Josh has served our country in the military. I think whenever possible we should say thanks by giving our Vets consideration.

Last winter when we were looking to replace our obsolete heating plant, I sought quotes from two local oil companies. An acquaintance recommended I call Chris Grainger, owner of Nightlife Oil Burner Service and ask him for a quote, which I did. Chris has over 25 years' experience working with oil burners. He went out on his own to sell and service systems and not have to deal with oil companies. He knows more about oil burners than anyone I know. His quote beat the two oil companies, one of which recommended the exact same system Chris recommended. Nightlife did a great job taking out our old system and installing the new one. There wasn't a single smudge of heating oil anywhere in sight. Chris is extremely responsive and returns phone calls promptly. If you are considering updating your oil burner, Chris Grainger of Nightlife Oil Burner Service is the guy to call.

One of my three furnaces died and two of them needed annual service. The wiki pointed me to Nightlife who was previously recommended by Kieth Nelson.
In the past, I've had a number of people come in to work on my own little slice of hell, including the Three Stooges Furnace Service Company. Chris Grainger is the principle and he takes his job extremely seriously. Great pride in workmanship. Meticulous. And his goal is that when he's done, he owns that furnace (in this case two furnaces and an oil fired hot water heater). His theory is that if he does the job right then I won't be calling him back for something he should have gotten right the first time.

I just got my oil tank replaced by Night Life Oil Burner Service. We noticed a suspicious spot on our decades-old tank. Chris Granger scheduled an appointment with me quickly. His crew was fast and courteous, and they left that part of the basement cleaner than it's ever been. They also brought the installation up to current code, all permits in order.
We picked him because of his competitive price, and because we figured an Ashland-based company would be familiar with Framingham's code and inspector preferences. We had also been told some companies charge for the time it takes to empty the old tank, so best to wait until the tank was empty. Night Life charged a flat fee.
May you never have to replace your oil tank. If you do, we recommend Chris.

Chris just replaced (11/7/09) our oil furnace/oil burner. He knows what he's doing. We're in Framingham. You can look at the unit, or whatever would help you out. He has quite a lot of people who would recommend him, not just us.
You can certainly tell him we suggested you contact him.

We had a great experience with Thackaberry HVAC:
They replaced our old furnace with a new high efficiency one and our room units with central air. Dave Thackaberry did what he promised, when he promised, at the price he promised, even though he had to do extra plumbing work when it turned out some existing pipes were in the way. Highly recommended.

I would like to relay my negative experience with Robert Wagner Plumbing. They wanted to sell me a bill of goods.
I was recently installing a whole house humidifier, and in the process, nicked a copper tube in the evaporator coil of my central A/C system. Not knowing anyone local, I called Robert Wagner Plumbing, as it was one of the first hits I got from google.
The tech came out the next day, and as soon as he saw the damage, indicated that he couldn't fix it, and that an entirely new coil would be required. The estimate for a new coil, installation and recharge with refrigerant was just over $1500. At the same time, the tech was heavily suggesting to replace the condensor unit outside, even though it was installed only two years ago. The reasoning he gave was that it is R-22 based, and as of 2020, R-22 will no longer be manufactured for the purposes of servicing A/C units.
Furthermore, the tech saw that our furnace is old, and suggested that it should be replaced as well so that a new evaporator coil could be matched to the furnace, instead of retrofitted.
I gave him a check for the cost of the service call and sent him on his way. We ended up bringing the coil to my father in law's coworker (a licensed A/C tech) in W Mass and he fixed it in less than an hour.

I've been using Victory for maintenance of my heating and cooling systems, and they installed the c/a a few years back. I've been pretty satisfied with them - one of their technicians goofed on one thing but they quickly acknowledged their mistake and fixed it. It's not only about who does the best work, but who is willing to admit when they err.
Good luck!
